BRIDGEWAY COUNSELOR HONORED WITH SUPPORTIVE HOUSING ASSOCIATION AWARD
(Elizabeth, NJ, January 13, 2010) — Pictured congratulating Karen Cimorelli who received the Supportive Housing Direct Service Provider of the year award at the 11th Annual NJ Supportive Housing Conference are Cory Storch, Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services Executive Director and Nancy Schneeloch, Bridgeway Director of Housing and Homeless Outreach Services. Ms. Cimorelli, a counselor with Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services Supportive Housing program which serves Hunterdon County adults facing mental illness, has been a staff member with Bridgeway for six years. The Conference and the recognition are sponsored by the Corporation for Supportive Housing – NJ and the Supportive Housing Association of NJ.
Supportive Housing assists people with mental illness who wish to live independently by providing support and counseling services to individuals who live in either their own permanent independent home or apartment. Ms. Cimorelli was recognized with this award because she embraces the psychiatric rehabilitation approach within supportive housing. She provides hope, individualized services, assists individuals to be focused on their goals, and goes out of her way to assist individuals with reaching their recovery goals. Ms. Schneeloch says, “Karen is very deserving of this award.”
A state-wide award, it is bestowed annually at the Supportive Housing Conference. There is only one award in this category and it is the first time a staff member from Bridgeway has received it. Ms. Cimorelli joined the Bridgeway staff as an administrative assistant for the Hunterdon program and completed her education pursuing a degree in psychiatric rehabilitation. She has since been promoted to counselor and is currently enrolled in a post secondary Masters program.
For 40 years, Bridgeway has provided services to New Jersey adults who are facing the difficulties of mental illness. Through recovery-centered support services Bridgeway assists individuals to live as independently as possible, learn and work in the community, and improve their quality of life. Bridgeway has taken a leadership role in the state-wide transformation of mental health services to the recovery model and focuses on assisting people to recover meaningful and valued roles through effective cutting-edge mental health programming. Bridgeway was designated NJ Association of Mental Health Agency’s (NJAMHA) 2007 Provider of the Year, in recognition of its tradition of successful psychiatric rehabilitation service outcomes.
