Partial Care

Our Recovery Oriented Partial Care program provides psychiatric rehabilitation services in a freestanding community based setting. It was the first of Bridgeway’s programs and has provided services in Union County since its inception in 1970. The program offers clinical, prevocational, educational, social, and support services as a bridge between emotional illness and productive active living. The program provides a range of recovery oriented services that address the holistic needs of the person in recovery including an opportunity to work on personal, social, vocational, wellness and educational goals. with a focus on helping individuals to connect or reconnect with valued roles, to live as independently in the community and to prevent the use of more acute psychiatric services. Services are person driven and include significant others to the greatest extent possible. The program operates on the tenet that all individuals when given support, skill training, opportunity, and encouragement can learn to live more independently and be more self-sufficient.

Program Goals

Bridgeway utilizes evidence based and best practices to help people with psychiatric and addictive disorders. The focus is on helping person’s served to connect with roles that he/she values such as student, worker, mother, voter and to help the person served integrate in his/her community to the greatest extent possible.
Greater community integration is the overall goal of the Bridgeway program. This objective is measured in different ways for different people. For some, it means returning to work or school. For others, it may be when he/she becomes involved in some type of a self-help group in the community. Affiliating with a health club or becoming more involved in a faith-based organization is community integration for some. A substantial number of persons served at Bridgeway achieve greater community integration by enhancing their interpersonal and social relations, be this with friends, family, loved ones, or neighbors. For all people, it is hoped that he/she becomes part of the larger community to the fullest extent possible and that he/she uses the opportunities at Bridgeway as a stepping-stone to obtaining this greater involvement.

The creative arts unit provides an opportunity for people to explore their creative side and develop wellness tools by utilizing fine arts, creative expression, music drawing, painting, and arts and crafts. This unit has a goal of enhancing recovery and quality of life by teaching wellness activities and by developing coping skills which can be transferred to the person’s living environment. Independent living skills are also taught by utilizing public transportation to visit museums and craft shows. Art therapy and creative expression are used.

Food Service Unit:

This unit is responsible for providing all people with a hot lunch every day of the week. They also enhance the level of skill needed in order to work productively in the food service industry. Wellness and Independent living skills are improved using menu planning, preparation of nutritionally balanced meals, inventory of stock, and grocery shopping.

Clerical Unit:

The unit includes learning and practicing computer skills and basic office skills, (filing, collating, record keeping, introductory computer skills, typing, etc.), People can learn introductory and intermediate computer skills which can be used for personal use at home or as a staring point to more advanced classes.

Research Unit:

This unit aims to increase the awareness, knowledge, understanding, and insight of persons served and staff through research, information gathering/dissemination, education and evaluation. Persons served have access to the Internet, and learn to utilize this Information Superhighway when doing their research. The research unit is also responsible for conducting bi-annual satisfaction surveys. The results of the survey are tabulated in a professional manner, and the data is used in Bridgeway's efforts to continually improve the program.

MICA Unit:

Using Stage Based and an intergraded system of educational and support activities, persons served are helped to gain an intrinsic motivation to change and move forward in recovery. The combination of peer support and clinical services leads to development of skills, awareness and self-efficacy to live a drug-free independent lifestyle.
